History

 

 Sound 59 Festival of Contemporary Music has been held in Perm (Russia) since 2005. Perm City Organization of the Union of Composers of Russia has become its initiator. Igor E. Mashukov, composer, chairman of the Perm branch of the Union of Composers of Russia, laureate of prizes of the Perm Territory and the administration of Perm in the culture and art field (http://enc.permculture.ru/showObject.do?object=1804084713) is the artistic director of the festival.

The festival acquaintsdemontsrates various trends, styles, trends and genres of contemporary academic music by composers from different countries for students, including Klaus Lang, Peter Ablinger (Austria), Helmut Zapf (Germany), Jan Frind (Netherlands), Olga Viktorova, Viktor Ekimovsky, Arthur Zobnin, Vera Ivanova, Rashid Kallimullin, Dmitry Kurlyandsky, Oleg Payberdin, Vladimir Raynev, Yaroslav Sudzilovsky, Boris Filanovsky (Russia), Frank Bedrossyan, Marc Andre, Philippe Leroux, Fabien Levy (France) and other authors.

Much attention at the festival is paid to Perm region composers’ music, namely such famous composers as Dmitry Batin, Oksana Izotova, Evgenia Kudryashova, Igor Mashukov, Victor Pantus, Alexander Khubeev, Gennady Shiroglazov, Nikita Shirokov, as well as musicians, being newcomers in this field. Perm region composers’ works were repeatedly heard at the festival.

The distinctive festival feature is the fact that it is both multi-stylistics and multi-genre. Modern choreographic art, song and dance folklore are available here in addition to musical creativity. This contributed to premieres of ballets, operas, and musical performances to be held at festival events.

Multiple concerts, master classes, creative meetings with musicians and performers - leaders of contemporary music in Russia and abroad, including such musicians as Albert Zasman (pianist, Austria), Siegfried Mauser (pianist, Germany), Bertrand Chavarria Aldrette (guitar. Mexico), Eric Dray (winds, USA), Carol Beff (composer, pianist, France), ensembles UNITED EUROPE ORCHESTER (Austria), Moscow Contemporary Music Ensemble (Moscow, Russia), Noborders ensemble (Italy), SMASH ensemble (Mexico), drummers ensemble (Poland), Molot Ensemble (St. Petersburg, Russia), Aleph (France) and a lot others are held at the current festival.
